"Beyond Expectations"
The boys make a change for the better by refining their skills and
achieving sweet success. After losing all but five players from last year's sub-par team, the boy's varsity basketball
team exceeded all expectations. "We lost a lot of our starters, and had to start from the beginning. We accomplished
more than anyone expected," said senior Shane Hobbs.
The Tide out performed their predecessors by advancing to district competition. However, they lost their first district game
to Allentown Allen by a disappointing 15 points. "Although we didn't win districts, getting there was very important,"
said junior Brad Fees.
The Tide season started out
rocky, but soon the boys, under the guidance of third year head coach, Mr. John Toomey, were on the road to a five game winning
streak. The Tide's league record was also very impressive, as the squad's only two losses came at the hands of the Shamokin
Indians.
"Our senior class has done a lot to get
us back to where Pottsville basketball is used to being. They made the effort to get our program back to being a winning program,"
said Coach Toomey.
