Head Coach Dave Mullaney : Begins his 11th season as Pottsville Boys Basketball coach. Coach Mullaney is a 2000 graduate of
St. Vincent College with a degree in mathematics. While at St. Vincent, Mullaney was a standout performer on the hardwood,
and served as a team captain for two seasons. He ranks among the all-time leaders in assists for the Bearcats, and helped
the team to post a 28-5 overall record in 1998. That season , St. Vincent also advanced to the NAIA Elite Eight. During his
final season with the Bearcats he played a key role in the team winning a school-record 18 consecutive games. Coach Mullaney
served five years as an assistant high school coach at Pleasant Valley and East Stroudsburg-South and two years as an assistant
coach at Wilkes University prior to coming to Pottsville for the 2007-2008 season.
Mullaney and his staff have led the Tide to 216
- 60 record since taking over in 2007. He has helped lead Pottsville to Six Schuylkill League Titles
and three District XI AAA Title during his ten years at the helm. Three times, Mullaney has been tabbed Republican
Herald "Coach of the Year". He is currently a mathematics teacher at the High School and resides in Pottsville.
Assistant Varsity Coach John Toomey:
Toomey just finished his 6th season as the Varsity Assistant for the Tide. While contributing in all aspects of the
program, his major responsibilities include directing the scouting program and working with our post players. He has
been instrumental in the helping the Tide to Championships in each of his years as a Varsity Assistant.
Prior to becoming a Varsity Assistant, Coach Toomey Coached the 7th grade for the Program for two years.
From 1995-2002, Toomey was the Tide's head coach, leading the team to a 105-75 record and Schuylkill League Championship.
He was an assistant to Coach Jim Steidle prior to becoming head coach at Pottsville.
Coach Toomey has also had a major
impact on the football program at Pottsville. He has been Defensive Coordinator for the Tide for the past 25 years,
two of which resulted in State Final appearances. Coach Toomey is the one of the most highly respected coaches ever
to coach at Pottsville. He has been a mentor for many of Pottsville Coaches in a varying sports. He has taught special
education in the district for the past 34 years.
JV Coach/Assistant Varsity Coach
Tom McGeoy will begin his 11th year as the Head Junior Varsity Coach. During that span, his team’s overall record
has been very impressive, Along with heading the JV team, Coach McGeoy is also an assistant coach with the varsity and
is the program’s video coordinator. Coach McGeoy also is the Crimson Tide Varsity Head Football Coach. He
just finished his 4th season in that capacity.
Prior to coaching, Coach McGeoy enjoyed a stellar
career as an athlete at Pottsville and Lehigh University. In basketball, McGeoy played three years, lettering each season
for the Crimson Tide. He was captain of his team for two years. As a senior, he was named first-team All-Area, first-team
All-Anthracite and a Schuylkill County All-Star after leading the Crimson Tide to the 2000 Schuylkill League title.
A fullback and linebacker for the football team, McGeoy lettered three times. He was awarded 1998 first-team All-Area
and first-team All-Anthracite. In 1999 he was awarded first-team All-Area, Republican-Herald Defensive Player of the Year,
first-team All-Anthracite and third-team Associated Press Big School All-State. Additionally, he was nominated for the Big
33 game and was the 2000 Schuylkill Chapter No. 25 Scholar-Athlete. Coach McGeoy went on to star at linebacker at Lehigh
Coach McGeoy is currently a Social Studies teacher at Pottsville Area
High School. He and his wife Renee reside in Port Carbon with their children Ryan, Mya, and Macy.
Grade Coach: Jake Wartella was born on April 8, 1987, graduated from Pottsville high School in 2006 and also Graduated
from East Stroudsburg University in 2010 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Health & Physical Education.
At Pottsville, Jake was a 4-year Starter and Letter Winner in Basketball. He was Captain of the team
his senior year. He is also a 1000 point scorer and 3 Time All- League 1st Team Point Guard. He was a member of the 2004 Schuylkill
League Championship Team. He also earned 4 Varsity letters in Football and 3 Varsity letters in Baseball at Pottsville. He
currently is teaching Health and Physical Education at North Schuylkill Jr/Sr High School. He also coaches Varsity football.
