Resiliency, the outstanding characteristic of the Tide, carried them through an up and down season. After being turned away in their season opener at Hazleton by a convincing margin and again by state ranked team from Williamsport, the cagers found themselves doubting their own abilities. However, through Head Coach Jim Steidle, they began to believe in themselves, earning respectability and a playoff berth.

   Jose Torres, one of the leading point guards in the district, fueled the Tide with a 15 point average throughtout the season. His best game occurred against a favored Panther Valley team. He connected for a game high 24 points as the Tide put on a Martz Hall show for hometown fans.

   Super sub Randy Azbell provided rebounding ability against taller teams and good outlet pass to get the fast break moving, the trademark of the Tides offense. Forward Ed Simpkins also proved valuable from the inside. Two juniors filled the hoop from the outside when needed, Cory Mabry and Bill Bedson hustled for every field goal. Marbry was the leading defender, being called upon to defend the opposing teams' star players, night after night.

   The toughest defeat of the season came against a scrapping Salisbury team in a District 11 playoff game. "We've set a goal," exclaimed Steidle, "and it's too late to stop now. Go and play your hearts out."  The Tide lost by seven, 73-66, in over-time, putting a halt to their Cinderella season. "That really Hurt," commented Kevin Stevens. " I just realized that it was all over for the seniors." Senior Matt Flannery concluded, "Becoming district champion isn't everything - learning things that carry through life is."
