The 1979-1980 edition of the Crimson Tide varsity basketball team, coached by Mr. Charles Funk, was small but fast. The speed and quickness of the team were it's greatest assets and enabled the unit to achieve a commendable record and a Schuylkill League Championship. Pottsville had only two returning letterman- 6'3" senior forward, Jim Stoffey, and 5'6" senior guard Tony Boris. Six players of the ten member squad had some varsity experience. Stoffey was the top returning scorer with a 6.13 average.

   Ralph Thomas, a 6'4" junior, joined Stoffy up front, along with Mike Campion and Don Snowell. Snowell also played guard during the season. Juniors John Veronsky and Jimmy Murphy were also slated for action in the front-court. Tony Boris and Jim Murphy, both seniors, joined in the back-court along with juniors, Rick Painter and Mark Bacon. Sophomore guards, Danny Phillips and Joe Eckley, also saw some varsity action.
