"Wham, Bam, Jam"

Sneakers squeaked, nets swooshed and bodies collied. The Crimson Tide basketball team played each game like soldiers in battle with the intensity and desire to win. For the second year in a row the basketball program made history. After capturing the Schuylkill League Divison I crown, they rolled through the District XI field to become champions.

Although the Tide failed to win the overall Schuylkill championship, they completed league play with a 13-3 record. The Tide fell to Lourdes in the championship game 47-45.

"We were hoping to go undefeated in the league. We had a let down losing two games during the regular season, but, fortunately, we came togather to win the division. Wewere happy to advance to the championship, but it just wasn't our night," commented Senior Kevin Dicello.

In distrcit action, the team traveled to Stabler Arena to take on Allentown Central Catholic. Coach Jim Steidle led the squad to a 71-59 victory and a bid on the District XI championship. The Tide crushed the West Hazleton Wildcats 62-42. They opened state play with Scranton Prep. The dream ended with a 50-47 loss,

Carrying the team through the season was court leader Dicello. He averaged 13 points per game and dished out eight assists. The twin towers of Corey Holobetz and Scott Stephenson grabbed rebounds and blocked shots, Contributing to this trio were Seniors Ron Abdo, Eric Ostrosky  and Mark McCabe consistently banged in three point treys.

"Scott and I knew we had a height advantage over most teams. After we lost the league playoff game, we wanted to bring home at least one championship. The Christmas Tourney was exicting, but winning districts made the season," concluded Holobetz.

Overall, Pottsville won the Class AAA District XI championship. Dicello, Holobetz, and Stephenson were selected to the Senior Carity Bowl. Dicello led the team averaging 13 points per game. The Tide captured their second consecutive Division I crown.
